Cheap airport parking at Prestwick

160 holidaymakers travelling by Ryan air from Prestwick to Gerona in Spain were stranded on
the tarmac for six hours due to a French air-traffic control strike.
Boarding the aircraft at 1.30pm the passengers were told to expect a three-hour delay before
take-off, later extended a further three hours.
The airline refused to serve them drinks from the onboard trolleys despite the air conditioning
being turned off because the products were marked as duty-free, and would be taxable if
consumed before take-off.
Much to the passengers chagrin staff were seen drinking themselves and water was apparently
brought on for the pilot.
Only those people who had bought drinks in the air-side of the terminal were carrying water with
them because of EU security restrictions on travellers taking liquid on flights.
Passengers were refused to disembark and buy drinks from the terminal building just yards
away in fear of missing a takeoff slot if and when available.
A spokesman for Ryanair said the airline was “of course very apologetic for the inconvenience”,
but that did little to appease the distraught, tired, hungry and thirsty passengers who wished for
nothing more than some water and a meal.
